Football season is officially underway. OSU had their first home game, which is of course a huge deal if you live in the city of Stillwater and my boy s had their second official game. The games were suppose to be held in Stillwater this week but because the field isn't ready (apparently there is only one football field in the entire city) all games were moved to Tulsa where we were the "home team" but when you're 90 minutes from home it doesn't really make sense. Ever since Nick was in first grade he's wanted to play tackle football but every year I tell him he has to wait until fifth grade. He still asked every year and when he got to fifth grade he said he didn't want to play. But this year Zack is in the fifth grade and wanted to play so when I signed him up, Nick quickly followed. You must understand. Football is huge in Oklahoma. I mean HUGE! I think little NFL logos are on the blood platelets of people here. I've never seen anything like it. So signing your kids up to play tackle football is a big committment. It means practices four times a week, 2 hours a practice. It means every Saturday until the middle of November being sent at games (most of which are in Tulsa) and it means money -- lots of money -- well to sign up, to buy equipment, to pay for gas (the biggest of all), to pay admission to all the games and of course to buy food when you are at the games....But you know what? I LOVE it. I LOVE football and I LOVE watching my kids play. I love seeing them in their uniforms. I love when they hit someone. I love cheering them on. It's so much fun. Today I finally took some pictures of the boys at their games. Enjoy! Zack won his game 6-6 (to determine the tiebreaker each team is given four plays and whoever gains the most yards wins) and Nick lost his game -- but looked much improved from their 0-35 opening loss. Enjoy the pics. Look for more in the future....

It's so strange to see those little people in full football gear. I'm aghast they make you pay admission to the games. Where does that money go? I think it should go back into the program so you pay less next year. It's great that your kids are busy and physically fit. You don't want obese children. Plus, kids are less likely to get in trouble if they're involved, so TAKE THAT!
Yeah, like you said on my blog...why do we pay to see our own kids? You know, when my kids are rich and famous they better let me in for free. The other people should have to pay, but not me!
I'm so impressed at your enthusiasm! I'd probably be whining about it the whole time. You're right-they do look so cute in their little uniforms.
