The Love of the Game

Nick is playing baseball on a competitive level this year and it's been quite the experience. It's a bit more expensive (that's the side I always look at) and it's been a hard switch for him. Many of the teams they play have older kids (Nick's team is entirely fifth graders) and most of the teams they play have been together for years (first time Nick's team has been together). I love going to the games and seeing them accomplish what they have been practicing so hard to do. When someone gets a great catch, hit, or play it is so exciting. They haven't won a game yet and I so badly want them to, just so they can feel that victory. It's hard to explain to kids to look for the little victories -- like a great play -- they think winning is the only way they have really accomplished their goals. On a funny note, there are three Nick's on Nick's team. Two years ago all three Nick's were in the same class at school so they are Nick A., Nick B. and Nick O. -- The coaches will have all three of them in the lineup back-to-back-to-back and if all three of them are on base it's hilarious because the coach will be talking (yelling) to Nick and none of the Nick's know which one is being spoken to. They should have named them the "Nicks" -- Not a bad idea. New York has a team with that name. OK, different spelling but it would be fun....I'll post some pictures of Nick when I get them.....

Seriously, you must post some pictures. I can also help you with your background if you'd like. Wish I could have been there to yell at the Nicks.

I have a feeling that a winning game is not in the cards for this season. Are you guys going to play again next year? I don't know if Eli will want to but I might have to make him just so I can hang on the bleachers with you.
