So today at the pool I finished reading Stephenie Meyer's book "The Host." (I LOVE reading at the pool). I have read her previous three novels, the "vampire" books as I call them and liked them okay. I wasn't head over heels in love with them like a lot of people were but I also understand that I am 35 and those books were written for young adults, or junior high kids. I did enjoy them in the sense that they were clean, yet still contained a lot of adventure and romance. Christina, who used to teach that age group, always struggled with reading suggestions for her girls and thank goodness there are authors out there willing to go against the norm and write books that don't contain everything teenagers DON'T need to be reading about. So anyway, I picked "The Host" up at Hastings and I had heard it was Meyer's first book aimed toward an adult audience. I won't write about the plot, but I can say it was enjoyable and it was an interesting subject. It took me about 50 pages to get into it (I thought the beginning was a bit confusing -- you have to know the premise -- that aliens, in the form of worms, are being injected into humans and taking over earth) -- Anyway, I finished it, and like most books I finish I am sad until I am fully involved in my next book. I have a list of about 10 books I want to read but they are all in hardback and I don't want to pay those prices. I started reading, "The Chosen" -- a friend suggested it, so we'll see how it goes. It's another one of those books that has a set of cliffnotes and I always get nervous reading those. I read enough of those books in AP English in high school.....
